Up Your Media has been helping Mac users in Parksville, Qualicum Beach and Central Vancouver Island since 2009.
Today, Dan LaRocque and Robert Van De Weghe bring decades of hands-on Apple, Mac and IT experience to homes and small businesses throughout the area.
We’re both Apple-certified technicians, but just as importantly, we know how to explain technology without making people feel like they should already know the answer.
Whether you need help with a new Mac, a stubborn technical problem, Wi-Fi, backups, training or simply figuring out why something suddenly stopped working, our approach is straightforward: listen first, explain the options clearly, and help you get things working properly.

Dan founded Up Your Media in 2009 and has spent years helping people get more comfortable with Macs, iPhones, iPads and the rest of the Apple ecosystem.
His path into Apple technology started much earlier.
“While I studied on a Mac Classic II at recording school in ’92-93, I didn’t buy my own machine till 1994, a sweet Mac LC 475, with colour screen, 4 MB of RAM and an 80 MB hard drive. I built my first webpage that year for a Vancouver rock band and have been at it ever since.”
Dan’s background combines Apple support, training, web work and years of helping local Mac users solve everything from simple questions to considerably more creative technical disasters.
Robert Van De Weghe
Apple Certified Technician & IT Consultant
Robert has been working with Macs since 1996 and brings decades of technical support, troubleshooting and IT experience to Up Your Media.
Before joining Up Your Media, Robert spent 13 years as IT Manager for Rethink, one of Canada’s leading independent advertising agencies, supporting a demanding mix of Apple hardware, software, networks and creative technology.
His experience covers Mac hardware and software support, system troubleshooting, networking, backups, security and helping people make sense of technology that sometimes seems determined to resist being understood.
Robert is also an Apple-certified repair technician and works with both home users and small businesses throughout Central Vancouver Island.
Two technicians, one practical approach
Dan and Robert come from different technical backgrounds, but the philosophy is pretty simple: technology should make life easier, not make you feel stupid.
Some clients want to understand exactly what went wrong. Others just want the thing fixed so they can get back to work.
Both are perfectly reasonable.
We’ll explain as much or as little as you want, recommend solutions that actually make sense for your situation, and try very hard not to turn a five-minute answer into a lecture about computer architecture.
